Leaving the church and returning to God

What “Faith vs. religion” is about:

Faith and religion are hard. Faith is supposed to be hard. Religion is hard because it is man’s futile attempts to explain everything so that faith isn’t necessary. And religion is corrupted by man, so it tends to turn off more people than it attracts.

I have been a Christianof one type or anotherall my life, so I admit that I cannot speak with any authority about other faiths. But I do have some good Life Tips that apply to all faiths and how we can respect everyone’s faith without judgement. And while I am not here to convert anyone, I have learned some valuable things that might help you put faith and religion into a more coherent context and into a more rational place in our lives.

“We find it fascinating that every single hostile encounter Jesus has is with highly religious people. Not one of them is with a so-called “pagan.” It was religious people who opposed Christ; it was religious people who had him killed. This ought to give you some idea of the pernicious nature of religion. There is relationship with God and life in his Kingdom, and then there is religion. They are not the same.” ~ John Eldredge

“But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. For as the body without spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.” ~ James 2: 22,26

“For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths.” ~ 2 Timothy 4: 3-4
