The following life tips remind us to stop and be grateful for the wonder and beauty that is right before our eyes. We focus too much, to the point of obsession, on what we don’t have or on what our lives lack compared to others, when we could just as easily focus on how abundant our lives are compared to others. Why is it human nature to focus on what we lack, rather than on what we have?

We seek happiness today through things that can instantly gratify us: great food, drinks, a yummy latte coffee, entertainment on our phone, a large number of Likes and Shares, having the latest gadget delivered to our home tomorrow. Yet we can’t find happiness in a quiet morning of coffee with our loved one, or spending time playing in the dirt of our garden, or talking with neighbors on the front porch. Making matters worse, things that we should be grateful for we often criticize. A comedian once railed against airline passengers complaining about every little thing—no snacks, cost of a drink, annoying seat mates—forgetting that they are partaking in the miracle that is a ride on an airplane, sitting in a cushioned chair 35,000 feet in the air. A ride that allows them to fly across oceans and countries in mere hours.

The great Wayne Dyer once said, “The only difference between a flower and a weed is a judgment.” Indeed, we tend to view the world as a glass half empty rather than a glass plentiful. Let’s see if we can change that with some life tips full of perspective.
