Lies We Tell Ourselves

Dharma Diet – Post # 7

In my book Dharma Diet (due out for the new year), I discuss many of the lies that we tell ourselves about dieting and weight loss.

One of the greatest fibs we tell ourselves is that “it’s too expensive to eat healthy.”

I think the reason we believe this lie is because when we first start purchasing healthy alternatives, we are still purchasing many of the same old unhealthy foods. Our grocery bill gets bigger because we are buying healthy alternatives, but due to habit or cravings or whatever, we are also bringing home the unhealthy stuff. Our bill increases because the number of items we purchased increases.

When I began the Dharma Diet, I completely cut out many of the unhealthy foods I used to buy and replaced them with the healthy. The result? Our weekly grocery bill decreased by about $20 on average.

You’ll have a chance to contemplate this lie and many of the other lies we tell ourselves about diet and nutrition in the book Dharma Diet.

“When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I gave up childish ways.”
